“What will you do first?” My friend asked me.
“Take a shower.” was my smart-ass response.
I hadn’t given it much thought. However, the first thing that comes to mind is probably food even if I don’t crave anything in particular. Good and cheap Japanese food, Hong Kong style cafes, Vietnamese pho, good western food, are all on the list of things that I’ll go back to eating. It’s all very yummy and comfort food usually gives me a sense of home.
But the three things I will probably enjoy the most are the following (outside of seeing my family):
I miss skating and playing hockey so even though I don’t know if I’ll be suiting up for the coming season, it will still be nice to hit the ice when I get back. It’ll be one of the first things I do to regain my sense at home.
2) Breathe and Drink
Breathe that lovely Vancouver air and drink that wonderful tap water. It’s the best. Seriously. I don’t know why idiots drink bottled water in a place with such great water.
3) Go for a walk by the water
Vancouver is special because of its location. Surrounded by water and the mountains, there’s not too many cities that have that. I always feel it weird not being by the water. A walk in one of my favourite areas will be soothing for my soul.
Vancouverites abroad, what do you look forward to when you return home?
