Who is the unsuccessful student?

ChesterMy name is Chester and I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada.

I am the unsuccessful student.

Why?

Well, I was a good student for most of my life. I studied hard. I usually got A’s in school when I tried.

In high school, I always thought I would end up in the sciences but due to my indecisiveness on a career, I ended up in a program that nobody knew. That major was a program called environmental sciences at one of my local universities. My parents always wanted me to have a good stable career (like many parents), but luckily for me, they were never pushy about my career choice.

The program wasn’t bad, but as life unfolded, I realize that I was lacking passion. There was never a career prospect that excited me. I’ll be honest. I could’ve gone into a lot of different professions and I probably could have done well in them, but it never felt right. Passion is a word that’s thrown around a lot these days, but I can assure you that this isn’t your typical “find your passion” blog.

I was exposed to business possibilities partway through my university years and it changed the path I wanted to take in life. But even after dabbing in different businesses, I felt that something was missing. In 2012/2013, I spent some time traveling to refocus what was important to me and what I wanted to explore over the next 5-10 years.

After returning home, I found myself on a totally new path in life: a path of curiosity, exploration, and creativity. This website will document my journey on that path.

So why the name?

By society’s standards, I am unsuccessful. I have little achievements, little money and little status. But after traveling, I felt a little more sure of what happiness and success meant to me.

I wanted to simplify my life and commit to being a better student. As we are all students of life, I think I have been doing a mediocre job in the past few years. Learning should be a life long journey and requires an active commitment.

If you know me, you know that I don’t take myself too seriously. I love to have a laugh and enjoy a good sarcastic crack. So don’t worry, despite the name, I am still a confident young man who knows himself well.
